Arlington, Va., Oct. 13, 2004 - The Media Institute will honor NBC Universal Chairman and CEO Bob Wright and Oxygen Media Chairman and CEO Geraldine Laybourne Oct. 27 at its annual Friends & Benefactors Awards Banquet at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington.

Wright will be honored with the Freedom of Speech Award, while Laybourne will receive the American Horizon Award. The master of ceremonies will be communications attorney and former FCC chairman Richard E. Wiley.

Tim Russert, host of NBC's "Meet the Press," will present the Freedom of Speech Award to Wright. The award is given to an individual who has helped advance freedom of expression. Wright has turned NBC Universal into a global leader in news and information while defending broadcasters' free speech rights.

FCC Commissioner Kathleen Abernathy will present the American Horizon Award to Laybourne. The award recognizes leadership in promoting the vitality and independence of American media and communications. Laybourne, who founded Oxygen Media in 1998, has built the company into a leading cable provider of original programming for women.
